Massive Demand for Econet Broadband, Ecolife

Econet Wireless says Econet Broadband and Ecolife, two services launched by the company over the past month, have been runaway successes surpassing anything the company has experienced before. Within just one week, Econet Broadband has expanded to more than 100 000 connected customers and the company is bracing itself for continued rapid growth well into coming year. Ecolife, the life insurance product jointly run by Econet and First Mutual Life, is also seeing subscriber numbers double every week. Econet signs deal with Apple

HARARE – Econet Wireless, Zimbabwe’s largest mobile services provider, has signed a reseller agreement with American electronic consumables maker, Apple Incorporated, among other players, as the group seeks to diversify its product offering outside the voice business, analysts say.

Africa: 4% growth in mobile subscribers

ABI Research estimates that at the end of the second quarter of 2010, more than five billion mobile subscriptions were active worldwide. Emerging markets such as India, Indonesia and China have continued to add mobile connections at a rapid clip, and show no signs of slowing down.

Zimbabwe: competition in the telcoms sector rises

IT IS game change for mobile telecommunications operators as they seek to introduce new products having saturated the market in terms of subscriber base.
Mobile telecommunication subscribers have increased sharply since 2008,  with last year’s figures from the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz) showing that there are more than 1,5 million new cell phone users  within a year.
Statistics for the current year are not yet available, but it is expected that the country now has upwards of five million mobile users, up from 2,19 million at the end of 2009.
