With the growth of the usage of mobile phones in channelling content, CNN has launched an international news application for the Iphone and iPod touch users. Users will be able to track news across CNN outlets, writes Rachel McAthy.

“Features of the app include push notifications, regionalisation and personalisation tools, as well as the ability to view and upload user generated content on iReport.” she writes.

The apps will also incorporate social media like Twitter and Facebook for content accessing. CNN might also be looking into localisation and geotagging for news stories. This is such a bright idea especially for the promotion of citizen journalism in Africa. But, with very few people having access to Smartphones and CNN, the impact is still to be ascertained.
